Proton S70: Sharing Roots with the GEELY Emgrand and Enhanced by BMA Architecture
The Proton S70 is a compact sedan that was officially launched in November 2023. Manufactured at Proton’s Tanjung Malim factory, the Proton S70 is available in four configurations: Executive, Premium, Flagship and Flagship X, with prices ranging from RM 73,800 to RM 94,800.

The release of the Proton S70 aims to fill a gap in Proton’s lineup within the compact sedan segment and compete against popular models like the Honda Civic, Nissan Almera and Toyota Vios.
The Proton S70 is Proton’s first new sedan following the investment from Chinese automaker GEELY. It serves as the successor to the Proton Prevé and represents a joint development effort between Proton and GEELY. The S70, based on the fourth generation GEELY Emgrand, utilizes the same platform and technology. However, the Proton S70 is positioned as a higher-end model in the market and is classified as a C-segment vehicle, which distinguishes it from its GEELY counterpart.
The fourth generation GEELY Emgrand was launched in China on August 28, 2021, and is built on the BMA (Basic Module Architecture) platform. The 2023 version of the GEELY Emgrand features a new 1.5D in-cylinder direct injection engine across all models, which delivers a maximum power of 127 horsepower and a peak torque of 152 Newton-meters. The engine is paired with either a 5-speed manual transmission or a CVT (continuously variable transmission), offering a fuel consumption rate of 5.82 liters per 100 kilometers under WLTC conditions.
The BMA architecture, short for Basic Module Architecture, is an advanced vehicle production platform independently developed by the GEELY Group. It enables the flexible development of various models across multiple segments, with a focus on A0 to A+ class vehicles. This architecture not only enhances manufacturing efficiency but also supports the production of high-quality vehicles such as the Proton S70 and GEELY Emgrand.
